Journal for Unit Four (Sessions 10-12) Last Journal
1. List 5 things you learned using Weebly in this course? Also, rank them from 1-5 with 5 being the thing that you most valued.
First, how to add pages and subtitles to click on for viewing. I rated it a 5 because it was not hard to use. Second, how to design a background for my page. I rated it a 4 because it was easy to use but my pictures continued to erase a few times until I figured out how to keep the pictures going. Third, how to publish my website to other students as well as worldwide. I rated this one a 5 because it was self-explanatory. Fourth, how to add photos to my site and make corrections to it. I rated it a 4 because my laptop
continued to mess up a few times. Fifth, hot to add a paragraph or more with my photos. I rated it a 5 because it was easy to do and was self-explanatory.
2. How was new knowledge developed for you through your online interaction with Weebly? Describe some examples of what happened and how you gained information.
New knowledge was developed by learning how to create a website I never heard of before. I also learned how to create a blog for the first time. I think this was a great idea because I will not be surprised if I have to design a new website for a future company or revise an old policy. Having knowledge and skills in how to do this will definitely benefit me. For example: As I created my website and blogs, I noticed that when a classmate responded to one of my blogs, I had to approve it so it can post on my site for everyone to view. This was very weird because as a second classmate responded to my page, this problem did not occur and her post appeared automatically. I gained information by reading other classmates journals, blogs, and policy briefs. As I gave ideas and insights to a few classmates, I gained ideas from others as well.
3. How have your technical skills improved by the use of Weebly in this course? Give a few…at least 3 examples.
Yes, my technical skills have improved because again as I stated before I learned how to create a new website, blogs, and how to write a policy brief. I also learned how to properly cite in the 6thedition APA citation format.
4. What are some ways that Weebly could used to develop community in this course? Has it enabled you to develop
relationships better with your fellow students and the instructor? Do you think Weebly contributed to that sense of community within the group? If so, list three ways.
Weebly could be used to develop community in this course by the responses on everyone’s blogs from the interaction between classmates and me. I developed relationships with my fellow class students and instructor by writing on the Discussion Board
assignments, blogs, and making comments to a couple or more students as assigned. I was able to see how individuals look in the course that make comments on my blogs and made a few friends as well for the instructor. For the instructor, I was given timely feedback within 24 hours of answers to my questions and feedback of my policy brief rough drafts. I also had the pressure to communicate through phone with the instructor via email messages. Weebly contributed to the sense of community within the group by: 1) Blog postings, 2) Discussion Board postings and responses from other classmates, 3) by the photos and descriptions
of a person’s background.
5. Can you suggest other ways that Weebly could be used in the context of this course? Should we continue to use
Weebly for future courses?
Weebly could be used as a way to find out new resources compared to the student’s interest area and concentration. This could be the contact number and information a social worker does not have time to share or give to the client. The client can just go on the website for any information needed. Weebly should be continued to be used for future courses because it was great learning something new and to have a friendly network like Face book. It helps students get a better understanding and knowledge and knowledge of every assignment relating to policy, as well as helping students get to know one another over the website.
In Unit 4, above I described why I feel that Weebly should be used in future courses, what other contexts could be used from Weebly, things I learned from using Weebly, new technical skills I built, the interactions that were developed while using Weebly, how Weebly could be used in the community, relationships built and with whom, and a list of rankings of Weebly.
I also wrote one more last blog on if I felt if any practice setting of a
policy or policies were irrelevant or unnecessary.
Unit 4 describes social policy, generalist social work practice, direct practice of the policy and its roles, social work skills, policy making skills, research methods, how to analyze the social policies. The unit also research interrelations, and practice skills of the
policy. I read the competencies, outcomes, and content and learning activities required for this week.
Power point lecture
Translation of policy analyses into action strategies to address problems that may occur, helping the vulnerable populations become equal and have justice as other populations (mainly the dominant or majority population), 3 important groups of policy practice skills are the: 1. Analytical (evaluation of the program, analysis of the policy, needs assessments, etc). Interactional (building rapport, persuasion, negotiating, solving problems, etc). Political (Building coalitions, information dissemination, lobbying, running for office). Evaluation of the program: -Goals, characteristics of the organization, process of service delivery, outcomes measured towards goals, measurements of stated outcomes, results for everyone to view, and findings. Interactional
skills: Sub-processes of negotiation, organizational, bargaining distribution, intra-organizational, and integration, relevant aspirations, resistance points, structuring attitudes, and stages of negotiation: preconference, conference, and post-conference.

Reflection
I feel relieved by receiving an “A” grade in the course and knowing that I worked hard in the course. I thought about how these past four weeks have flew by and how I was a little bit overwhelmed, but thankful that I am finished with this course getting ready to
start my internship. I visualized how I first started my four assignments and how I thought about completing them from Weebly, on the Discussion Board, and on my blogs. I gained an attitude of striving for the best and it paid off and developed skills of how to create a website, blogs, and policy brief. Concepts were networking between the instructor and other students, as well as putting a face with the students. I knew what assignments to complete and had knowledge of some policies of domestic violence, homelessness, and child welfare, I wanted to know more about policy, Social Security and the act, other policies created for different populations as of the Disabilities Act, and etc. I learned how to create a new website and how to use the new 6th Edition APA citation format. What I learned in this session that I will not forget tomorrow is networking with others for future jobs and etc, as well as blogs that I can use with my internship that start in two weeks. The most significant factor in how I learned was getting positive feedback from other students that gave me new insights into learning in different ways, as well as I teaching a few new
insights.
