“Describe a practice setting in which you would consider the policy largely rrelevant or unnecessary”. There are no policies or policy that is irrelevant or unnecessary. All policies are important even if a practice setting is unprofessional. For example: I did one of my undergraduate internships at a Homeless Shelter and the two full-time staff that lives in the 24/7 shelter, treated every intern of different races with disrespect and was very unprofessional. Even though other interns and I went through this behavior the policy of homelessness and working with MSHDA (Michigan Shelter Housing Development Authority), it is very important to help this population as well as important for the staff working in and out of the agency to have knowledge of. Every job needs a policy, and rules or guidelines to follow to be professional and to avoid being sued.

Practitioner policy analysis is useful for most social workers because policies will be what we need to help keep us successful for the rest of our lives. Policies are for other career fields, not just for social workers. Policies are what we need to read and understand while we are working in our future jobs. It is a way how we can help our clients cope with their problems by explaining to them certain rules and regulations. By doing this, the clients will start to understand why things are a certain way and why agencies do things in a certain way. Social workers will be advocates and multi-taskers for their clients and help give them the resources that they need. If a social worker don't read and comprehend what certain policies, regulations, and procedures are addressing as a role of the client and role of the employee, then the worker will not be as effective in helping these individuals with life's most challenging issues. Even though some people don't take advantage of policies, they need to start because it is what will help shape a better society for the present, future, and until the end of time.
I took a field trip on the white house website: www.whitehouse.gov. I chose this one because I am very interested in what our President Obama has to say about our society and how we should try to help one another out. I expected to find many questions and comments to the President about why we don't have jobs? Why are so many people starving in poorer countries like Africa? The recent news about the Somalian individuals who will lose a generation of people from starvation, as well as where is our money going due to America having the most. As I viewed the videos and read the speeches that President Obama gave this past week and weekend, I seen what was going to be discussed from day to day.
What I found was a sincerity from the President trying to help his people by signing bills, and trying to get others to reach out and help our country. He talked about how much in debt the economy is in and how bad we are struggling from a devastating recession. This is from earthquakes, the decrease in people having health care, a decrease in the tax reform, lack of Medicare for the Elderly, unemployment, the loss of jobs of construction workers, spikes in oil prices, and etc. He discussed about the sorrows of America losing 30 of its US Armed Forces while being in Afghanistan, and our responsibilities as a nation. This gave me a great knowledge about what I can do as a social worker and how I can help. It helps remind people that we all take alot of things for granted and need to appreciate the things that we have. First Blog 08/03/2011
Honestly, I didn't do too good on my quiz. I don't want to say exactly what I've got because it's embarrassing (smile). I was only surprised by the answers because I thought that 65 was the age a person can retire. Most of the questions had answers of it depends on.... I should've went with my first mind, but I changed my answers to the another answer that seemed to be the answer. I learned new things of when the first check of Social Security was sent, which was in 1940, as well as others. It goes to show me that I have more learning and studying to do. I was hoping to get a better score, but at least it wasn't graded. This information will help me to become better prepared for my future clients and to have knowledge about Social Work Policy as a whole. This is your new blog post.
